April 1st a Fools’ Day ???

Happy New Year!!!
Or at least it would have been if you were following the Julian Calendar before 1582 when the New Year was celebrated between the last week in March and the 1st day of April. In 1582 the French adopted the Gregorian Calendar which has the year beginning on January 1st and those who were late in adopting the change and still celebrated the New Year in March-April were labelled “poisson d’avril” or “fish of April” referencing those who are easily hooked. After becoming popular in Britain and Scotland in the 18th century, April Fools is now celebrated worldwide.
Note# New Year’s celebrations were a week-long event and April Fool was a two-day celebration in Scotland. These people could Party!!!!
